Standing with millions of persecuted Christians in more than 30 nations
A pastor is teaching a house church in China, listening for footsteps on the stairs. A mother is burying her husband in Nigeria. A young woman in Iran is memorising a Bible verse she cannot own.
They are not exceptions. They are the everyday reality of the church under pressure.
Around the world, millions of believers follow Jesus in places where that confession can cost freedom, livelihood, family or life. Pastors are imprisoned for refusing to deny Christ. Churches are attacked. Christian families are driven from their homes. Many live under constant pressure simply because they belong to Jesus.
This is not ancient history. This is not unusual for the church. This is happening now.
Voice of Persecuted Christians exists because persecuted Christians are our brothers and sisters. Members with us of one body. When one part suffers, the whole body suffers. When one part is honoured, the whole body rejoices.
So we remember them. We pray for them. We strengthen them. We provide practical help through trusted local Christian partners who know the needs of those who are persecuted. We call the UK church into fellowship with believers who suffer for Christ. Not as spectators. As family.
Remember those in prison as if you were their fellow prisoners, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering.
Hebrews 13:3
The scale of global Christian persecution is staggering. So how do we respond?
We serve persecuted believers through three complementary approaches.
Prayerful Support
We enable you to hear the real voice of persecuted Christians so that you can pray with understanding for them. Subscribe to our free quarterly Voice Magazine and our prayer alerts to be better equipped to pray.
For Christians, prayer is not a last resort. It is the first resort. God hears. God acts. God strengthens His people.
Pastoral Care
We fund discipleship programmes, training for pastors and leaders and Bible teaching. We remind believers they are not alone and that they are part of the worldwide Church which the gates of hell shall never overcome.
In many places, believers do not need to be told that Jesus is worth it. They need help to stand firm when the cost is high. Read their stories here.
Practical Aid
When believers are attacked, displaced, imprisoned or cut off from work, our partners often ask for very practical help. Bibles, emergency relief, support for prisoners’ families, legal support where appropriate and tools for rebuilding life and witness.
The work varies, because persecution looks different in different places and raises different needs. This is the body of Christ caring for the body of Christ.

A fellowship that flows both ways
When the UK church prays for persecuted Christians, persecuted Christians are already praying for the UK church. They pray for our faithfulness. They pray for our freedom. They pray for our witness in a culture that has largely forgotten the gospel.
This is what the body of Christ looks like when the borders between nations fall away. Not one side giving and the other receiving. A family that holds each other up across every border.
The UK church is not a spectator to persecution. In Christ, we are one family.
If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honoured, every part rejoices with it.
1 Corinthians 12:26

From a prison cell in Burcharest to a global movement
Voice of Persecuted Christians was founded in 1968, inspired by Pastor Richard Wurmbrand. A Romanian who spent 14 years in communist prisons enduring systematic torture designed to break his faith. It did not.
His suffering did not silence the gospel. It exposed the cruelty of false ideologies and stirred believers in freer nations to remember their family behind bars.
Today, we and other Wurmbrand-inspired ministries operate in around 70 countries, working through local Christian partners to provide material and spiritual support to those who suffer for Christ. We remain guided by Wurmbrand’s legacy. Christ-centred compassion, refusal to abandon suffering believers and the conviction that faith under fire demonstrates extraordinary spiritual strength.
