PRAYER ALERT: Nigeria – Fears grow of further attack on Christians
Nigeria Map With Benue State

Fears are growing that Christians in Nigeria’s Benue state (highlighted) could face another large-scale attack.

Please pray as a matter of urgency that God would thwart any plan by militant Fulani herdsmen or other terrorist groups to target Christians in this Middle Belt state.

Herdsmen were reported to have killed up to 200 believers in one predominantly Christian village called Yelwata in Guma local government area in June.

The death toll makes it the single worst atrocity in the region, where there has been a sudden rise in attacks and increasing signs that a concerted militant assault is underway to force an entire community to leave, Aid to the Church in Need reported.

More recent attacks on Yogbo village, which is also in Guma, have left some residents fearing another herdsmen invasion.

‘Shooting and killing of Christians in Yogbo by Fulani herdsmen is ongoing,’ Fred Samada, a local resident, said in a text message to Christian Daily International-Morning Star News on June 23. ‘Please pray for Benue state.’

  • Pray that God would stop any further attacks on Christian communities in Benue
  • Ask Him to comfort all those in the state who are mourning the loss of loved ones, and that the injured would know God’s healing power
  • Pray that God would convict security officials to fulfil their responsibility to protect all citizens, and that those who have perpetrated this latest violence would not only be brought to justice but would repent and turn to Christ
