Ladi Chohu lives together with her husband and seven children in Plateau State, Nigeria. In July 2021 their Christian village was attacked by armed Fulani militants. The militants began shooting, setting fire to buildings, and driving people from their homes. Ladi’s family, along with many others, were forced to flee to a neighbouring town.
When it was safe to return they found that their home had been burnt to the ground and all their possessions had been stolen. Shortly afterwards the seasonal rains came and compounded the devastation.
Release International partners have helped Ladi and her family to begin the work of reconstruction by installing a new roof. However, it will take more time and resources before the family home can be fully restored. In the meantime they are living in a single room nearby.
Ladi and her family are determined to remain in her village despite the risk of future attacks. Ladi wants to live at peace with all her neighbours – including those who attacked her. She said, ‘We’re trusting God that they will not be able to attack us again.’
Pray:
- That Ladi and her family will be protected from any future attacks.
- That the reconstruction of their home would be completed soon.
- That their faith in God would remain strong and he would continue to inspire them to be peacemakers.
- For other families in Ladi’s village and across Nigeria who have experienced similar displacement and trauma.
