Father R, a Coptic Christian leader in Upper Egypt, related an attack which saw two people killed and multiple fires lit in the church building. He said it would have been easy for the Christian community to withdraw and show resentment towards their Muslim neighbours, but instead they chose the path of continuing to shine a light in their village, including acts of kindness and forgiveness towards their neighbours.
Our partner continues to help bring confidence to some of the most marginalised Christians by helping them run co-operatives to bring in additional income to help them out of poverty. ‘Agatha’ is a Christian widow who has suffered ill health and depression because of her situation. Since becoming part of a sewing co-operative, which our partner helps to fund, she is now full of joy and purpose, and when we met her recently she shone with pride as she showed us some rugs and bags she has made.
Please keep Father R and ‘Agatha’ in your prayers, as they struggle to live out their Christian faith in such a difficult place.
