In Indonesia ‘Ber’ grew up attending church and the mosque as his mother was a Christian and his father a Muslim. As a child he had struggled to follow society’s rules and as a teenager had turned to drugs. Then one day his world fell apart as a violent dispute arose with a local family. There was a fight during which his neighbour drew a knife on Ber.
‘He tried to kill me but I got hold of the weapon and then almost blinded him’ he says.
Ber went into hiding, and shortly after this his aunt and his mother invited him along to a retreat, which was actually a Bible school, and during his time there he became a Christian.
While there he heard a speaker from one of Voice of Persecuted Christians’s associate ministries in Europe, who shared about leading many Muslims to faith in Christ in Syria. Inspired by this, Ber committed himself to tell Muslims about Jesus, and after three years at the school he was commissioned to be an evangelist in another part of Indonesia.
For some time there was a great deal of disappointment at the lack of fruit, which was followed by persecution. When he spoke to us he said ‘The training [from Voice of Persecuted Christians’s Indonesian partner] helps young people [like myself] to grow in their faith. Please pray that I am brave and can stay strong in what I’m doing.’
Please remember ‘Ber’s’ prayer request, and also hold our partner in your prayers that they may continue to do their good work.
